Green Beans

Last night we had our first "harvest" of Green Beans!!! And yes, we only got 7. Well, actually we had 8 but Eli ate one! We didn't think it was enough to cook for the whole family so I put them in the freezer and we'll cook them for Ethan when he starts solids in a few months. So exciting!

Falling asleep on His Own!

Last night I fed Ethan and he still was not asleep. I was not feeling well so I put him in his crib so I could rest. He made some soft crying sounds but nothing I needed to worry about. Then he stopped crying altogether! Of course I rushed into the room because I was sure in the few seconds he had not been crying he had somehow wedged his head between the mattress and bars and was slowly suffocating.
But what did I find?? A sleeping baby! I've heard about this. There are a lot of parents out there that claim there babies go to sleep by themselves. I've even read books and websites that try to teach you how to train them to do this. But I've never actually seen it until last night! Visions of sleeping through the night danced in my head. So I proudly went back to bed, closed my eyes and attempted to sleep.
Sleep never came for me. But my little boy slept a whole 1/2 an hour in his own bed while I watched the clock!

Maya Wrap Again

He looks so sweet in the Maya wrap. It's hard to get a good pic of him by myself. He is crying in some of these but he does that sometimes when he is trying to go to sleep if he is not nursing. I also like the half naked pics so I tend to take a lot of them. I would take his diaper off some so he didn't have to wear it all the time but I'm afraid he would pee and poop everywhere!

Texas????

So I was making dinner the other night and my chicken breast looked oddly like our Great State of Texas! Good thing it wasn't a pork chop with all that swine flu going around.....

Rainy Day

It had been awhile since the lawn had been mowed and we seemed to be growing a plant we did not plant! This is a weed that grew taller then Ethan! I thought it was pretty. It had little yellow flowers on it that turned into seeds and blew away. I don't think I've ever seen a milkweed quite this tall!

Ethan is "learning" to use his spoon. I will dip it into whatever soft thing I might be eating to let him have a taste of it. He seems to know where it goes! I don't plan on starting him on solids until after 6 months. But he can have a little taste every now and then!

It is stormy and rainy outside today. We plan on not leaving the house!

Maya Wrap and Screaming Baby

This is the new position Ethan gets himself into when he gets really upset! He is almost doing a back bend. He will do it when he is in this chair or on the bed. I'm not sure why he is doing this. He will stop as soon as we pick him up.

We have been working on new positions in our Maya Wrap (thanks Vicki!). I want to use it when we travel to South Carolina at the end of May. Ethan really likes to view the world in the forward position! It is very easy to pull him down into the sleeping position when he gets tired. I haven't tried to BF with him in it yet but will soon.

You have to love all the great faces he makes!

Diaper Change and Belly Button

This was a diaper change on New Years day or the day after, I think. His belly button fell off! I thought about keeping it but decided not to. It was kinda gross and I didn't want to see what it would look like 20 years later.

Ethan Video Take 2 Footprints

This is of Ethan at the birthing center getting his footprints made. He's so little! (12-28-08)

Ethan Video Take 1

I am new to this video editing thing so it may take me awhile to get the hang of it. This was not the video I ment to download but because it took so long I will leave it on here. (Feb 8, 2009)

Happy Baby and sick Harry

Well, I don't have much to say today so I thought I'd just add some pics of the little Man. He seems to be rubbing all his hair off on the sides and back so he has an "little old man toupee" as I like to call it!
He also has this little tuft of hair right at the back of his neck. It's so 80's mullet!
The hair stylist in me kinda wants to cut it but I don't. We've been nursing Harry back to health this last week. I was having to hand feed him chicken for a few days and he stopped drinking so when I took him to the vet he was dehydrated. He had to have blood work and IV fluids.
His back left leg had stopped working and the vet said it was probably nerve damage or something in his back. She gave him some antibiotics and muscle relaxers. After a few days of me shoving the pills down his throat and hand feeding him watered down chicken broth he is feeling much better!

Visit to Daddy's Work

Ethan had his first visit to his Daddy's work! We had lunch with Eli and his co workers on Monday. Everyone said how cute and sweet our baby is. But we already know that! He is almost sucking his thumb in this pic!

Hoppy Easter!!

Happy Easter Everyone! Eli, Ethan and I went to church in the morning and ate pot roast for lunch. We spent the afternoon gardening. Here's an update on our flowerbed:

The flowers weren't growing fast enough so we bought some! But there is still hope for the little ones. We don't think any of the bulbs will make flowers this year. Hopefully next year. The big green leafy ones in back are green beans we just tossed in there! We also think there might be some sunflowers growing! Time will tell.

Here are the tomato, peppers and green beans:

We bought cages for the tomatoes because they are getting so big. We can't wait to harvest our "crop" and let Ethan have his first taste of home grown food!

Bird feeder update: We replaced the two bird feeders the squirrels broke. We bought some 100lb wire to hang them up with! Eli said if the squirrels chew through it he would buy them a bag of sunflower seeds and hand feed them!

Family Cradle

Ethan is the second generation of Meyers to sleep in this hand made Cradle. It was made for Eli by his Dad, Ed. All of Ed and Vicki's children slept in it. They were able to send it to us so Ethan could have his turn!

All of the children's names are carved into the bottom and Ethan's will be soon. Sometimes I put Ethan in it while I'm folding clothes and rock it every now and then. He loves it!

Our biggest Blowout EVER!!

Ethan had his biggest blowout he has ever had to date! We got up around 9am (I know, it was late) and Ethan had nursed around 7:30 so I knew he was not hungry. He always has a bm when he first wakes up so I put him in his crib until he was done. Well, he was happy in there for awhile and I got a few chores done around the house. Little did I know why he was so happy until I lifted him up and found this:

Yes, I know it was gross to take a picture of it. But it was his first big blowout. I had to have a record of it! I tried cleaning him up with wet wipes but that didn't work at all. In to the bath happily he went.

Ethan in the Sun

Ethan discovered a patch of sunlight on his Kick and Play. He spent a good 10 mins trying to grab it! Who needs toys?!!!

Another day at Yoga

Ethan and I went to yoga again last week. Here he is getting ready for class. All the babies lay on their blankets in front of our mats. Ethan is one of the youngest there but he always enjoys looking at the baby next to us. They are usually rolling over or trying to crawl off. I'm sure he's looking forward to doing the same. He was so good last week and didn't cry at all!

April's Visit

My sister April escaped from "boot camp" long enough to come visit us for the weekend and catch up on some much needed sleep! We did wake her up long enough to go eat a Joe's Crab Shack.
Ethan has passed the shell fish allergy test! He sat on my lap while I ate my crab legs. If you can't read it, the bib says "Let's get Crackin"!

Happy Day

This yellow suit is so soft! He posed himself for this! I think he was trying to get his fist in his mouth but missed. This is what happened when I took the hood off:

Ethan outside in his sun hat. He loves it outside! I got this one of him and Harry while I was cooking dinner.

Revenge of the Squirrels!!!!

This afternoon Ethan and I went for a walk in the backyard and this is what we found:
Our 2nd bird feeder and the Hummingbird feeder had been maliciously chewed down!!!!!! They attempted to chew through the cable wire holding up the sunflower seed feeder but didn't quite get through that one yet. I told Eli we are going to have to use some type of wire to hang them. Any idea what a squirrel can't chew through and you can buy at Home Depot?

I just don't understand why this year they are so interested it them. Last year they never touched them..... I've always love all animals, except for mean ones. I am now beginning to change my mind about the fuzzy rats that call themselves squirrels!
